In a mixed outlook, Hyundai raised on Monday its full-year revenue growth forecast range by six percentage points to 19-20% from its previous estimate in January. Operating profit margin is now estimated at between 6.5-7.5%, up from 5.5-6.5% previously.

Hyundai's sedan will expand its EV range beyond its current crossovers and SUVs to compete head-to-head against Tesla's best-selling Model 3 sedan.

As vehicles become electric, autonomous, gadget-stocked and web-connected, the movement is luring a wide array of new players â most notoriously Apple Inc. with its secretive Apple Car â all betting they have the technologies necessary to disrupt the $3 trillion market.
  While Big Techâs jostling has largely been downplayed by many incumbent carmakers, the push by Yoshida, 62, gained him an unlikely fan back in Japan: Toshihiro Mibe, who at the time was running research and development at Honda Motor Co. Of all Japanâs carmakers, Honda had thrown itself most aggressively into EVs, targeting a full phase-out of combustion-engine vehicle sales by 2040. From early on, Honda saw potential for collaboration with Sony with its consumer electronics, autonomous driving sensors and software as a way to differentiate new models and add value to the low-margin business of making cars.
  That doesnât mean it will be easy. Apple has searched far and wide for an ally to help it develop and produce its car, but talks with the likes of Hyundai Motor Co. and Ferrari NV have stalled, likely because theyâre wary of becoming an assembler for a product that could end up cannibalizing their business. Most tech-auto tie-ups so far have avoided Honda and Sony-style 50-50 partnerships.

  Pipe down for a second Elon, the hottest things in the auto industry â the most electric electrics â now come from Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. Earlier this year, the South Korean carmakers rolled out two new battery-powered cars â the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and its sibling, the Kia EV6 â which promptly tore up the sales charts, passing the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt and every other electric vehicle on the market not made by Tesla. In the US this year through May, Hyundai and Kia sold 21,467 of these two machines, besting even the white-hot Ford Mustang Mach-E, which was snapped up by 15,718 drivers. 
  The timing was favorable. EV adoption is picking up in the US, thanks to a surge in both climate concern and gasoline prices. And though thereâs a run on battery-powered vehicles, there still arenât many to choose from. Of the 30 or so models for sale on the US market, only a handful can be had for less than $45,000 and most of those are relatively small, dated cars like the Nissan Leaf. 
  The Ioniq 5 and EV6 both offer the cargo space of a small SUV, the size and shape of vehicle that has taken over US garages of late. Both cars ride on the same modular platform, incorporate the same motors and batteries and post similar speed specifications. They are tricked out with screens and charge at some of the fastest rates in the industry, adding almost 16 miles of range in a minute under ideal conditions. They also offer a couple features that are novel in the space: pedals to adjust regenerative braking and bi-directional power (yes, you can run power tools or charge another EV with one of these machines).
Ford Motor Co. (US.F) plans to add 6,200 union manufacturing jobs and invest $3.7 billion into plants in Michigan, Ohio and Missouri, as it looks to expand vehicle production and prepare for coming labor talks. The multibillion-dollar investment will go to retooling factories to build newer versions of gas-engine models, such as the Ford Ranger pickup and Mustang sports car, the auto maker said Thursday. Ford also plans to expand production of its electric F-150 Lightning in Michigan, as well as add an all-electric commercial van to its assembly factory in Missouri. Ford beat out EV competitors with the April launch of the F-150 Lightning, an electric version of its iconic gas-engine pickup. Vehicles from General Motors Co. (US.GM) and Stellantis (FR.STLA) trailâGMâs electric Silverado pickup is expected to be available in about a year, and Stellantisâs Ram is targeted for a 2024 rollout. Last year, Ford shared plans to build two battery factories in Kentucky and a third in western Tennessee, as well as a new truck factoryâan $11.4 billion investment with collaborator SK Innovation, a South Korean battery maker. Stellantis recently shared a $2.5 billion plan to build a battery plant in Indiana to support electric-vehicle production. Foreign auto makers are also increasing investment outside of Michigan.
