The Company provides sustainable energy through its diverse portfolio of thermal and renewable generation facilities and distribution businesses. It is organized into four market-oriented Strategic Business Units (SBUs): US and Utilities (United States, Puerto Rico and El Salvador); South America (Chile, Colombia, Argentina and Brazil); MCAC (Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean), and Eurasia (Europe and Asia). AES has two primary lines of business: generation and utilities. The generation line of business uses a range of fuels and technologies to generate electricity, such as coal, gas, hydro, wind, solar, and biomass. Its utilities business comprises businesses that transmit, distribute, and in certain circumstances, generate power. In addition, the Company has operations in the renewables area, which includes projects primarily in wind, solar, and energy storage.
